The LCPL Justin D. McLeese Detachment raised $8,000 for the Pontchartrain Yacht Club's annual Veteran's Regatta.
The Pontchartrain Yacht Club shows their appreciation for North Shore veterans with their annual Veterans Regatta. Each year the Yacht Club opens their doors to Veterans for a day of sailing, food, drinks, camaraderie and entertainment.
The Yacht Club does not charge Veterans for their annual regatta. Instead the receive donations from their members, and organizations like the LCPL Justin D. McLeese Marine Corps League Detachment.
Since the inception of the Crawfish Cook-Off For The Corps the LCPL Justin D. McLeese Detachment donated their proceeds from their cook-off to the Veterans Regatta.
The Pontchartrain Yacht Club is also the perfect place to boil crawfish. For the last three years the Detachment held their crawfish cook-off at the yacht club.
In addition to the beautiful view of Lake Pontchartrain, the yacht club has plenty of room, shade and space for the cooking teams and guests.
For the 2024 Crawfish Cook-Off For the Corps, 13 teams vied for the title of best crawfish on the lakefront. These teams used their secret recipes and special ingredients to make the best tasting and unique combinations of crawfish boils. Unlike the last two years, there were a couple of new changes to the cook-off.
The biggest change to the cook-off was the decision to add some prestige to the event. A change that ups the ante for the winner and raises the appeal of the event. This year the crawfish cook-off organizers joined the Southern Crawfish Cook-Off Association.
This gives the winning team a chance to compete against other winning teams from across the state. Our association also says we are a premiere competitive event This change also provides a new way to judge the boils, which is different from the last two years.
With the new rules as determined by the Southern Cook-Off Association here are the winners for 2024 Crawfish Cook-Off For the Corps.
TACP-3/23 took the top honors at the the 3rd Annual Crawfish Cook-Off For The Corps. Followed by Team Spartan, and Northshore Pools. The people voted the Stars And Stripes team as the people's choice and the spirit award went to Bandit 53 Seasoning.
In addition to the donation, The LCPL Justin D. McLeese Detachment wants to continue their partnership with the Pontchartrain Yacht Club. The two organizations are working to improve the grounds for the teams and the guests for the next cook-off.
